The woods is a place where you can leave your troubles behind, escape from the harsh world, and go on a journey with friends. But if you're going to be in the woods for any amount of time you will need to make sure that you have the essentials packed with your backpack. In this article we'll go over how to pack for an extended trip into the wilderness. Packing Tips: First things first, don't pack too much! You will only use a portion of what you bring anyways so just take enough gear that will keep you comfortable and have everything that's necessary. Light: Setting up camp and cooking need lots of light, while the area around your camp is only lit by the moon and the stars. You will need some extra sort of light that doesn't use a battery and will provide you with some extra dim light. Flashlights Solar lanterns are great for this. It's best that they are rechargeable because batteries die over time. This will give you a little bit of extra light at night to read, do your work, or just help your eyes adapt to the dark. Stuff sacks are great to use when packing around in the woods because they can be filled with trash or used as pillow cases for small items like pens or pencils. Sleeping bag are excellent to have in the backpacking. Sleeping on the ground can get uncomfortable so having a sleeping bag will help you sleep comfortably on the ground or on logs. Toiletries: It is very important for any outdoorsy person to have some sort of feminine supplies with them. Being in nature, if you need to do your business, there is no place to go. So always carry some extra toilet paper, hand sanitizer wipes (dont forget deodorant), feminine products (we all know how gross the smell of milk jugs are) and feminine hygiene products with you when travelin in nature. Camping Essentials: You will need to bring some extra things besides food, water and shelter. You will need things to cook with, utensils, plates and cups. For clean up you will need a shovel for the fire pit and a rake to clean the ground of extra trash or twigs. You will also need a couple boards to lay out on top of the ground for your sleeping bags to be placed on. Food: Make sure you have enough food in your pack that will last you a while. You don't want to have a full pack and no food in it. Water: Also make sure you have enough water in your pack because water gets heavy when you add more to your already heavy pack. Find a balance in how much water you need, but you should still have plenty of water. Stove: You will need to bring with you a fire starter. This will come in handy when getting the fire going with the use of some kindling and some kindling starter.
